Before Virtual Run Club, I’d get into running for maybe 2 weeks and then drop off because I injured myself from pushing too hard.
Cadence & Rachel taught me how to care for my body and listen to the cues it gave me, which is something I didn’t understand how to do before.
I used to feel so anxious about working out and would always find any excuse I could to not do it. Virtual Run Club helped me develop confidence in myself and maintain consistency in my workouts.
Running has improved my anxiety and mental health tremendously. Having the group chat helped because it was a community trying to do the same thing that I was trying to do, the gentle accountability really helped me get out the door!
Toward the end of Virtual Run Club I ran my first 5k and hope to run longer races in the future.
If you aren’t sure about running but have always been curious about it, give this a try!

I’ve been practicing Pilates for years with various instructors. Not only has Cadence helped me improve to my practice, she has helped me better understand the “why” behind certain exercises and has shown me how to make subtle changes to my form to help me do things I’ve never been able to do before. She is also more tuned into the nuances of the body than anyone I’ve worked with. She customizes my sessions based on my very specific needs at the moment and in general. I suffer from chronic back and hip pain – every session is tailored to helping me build strength to both relieve pain and increase my mobility. Some days my shoulders or quads will be extremely tight – she modifies the session on the spot to help alleviate the issue. I’ve even shown up with a massive headache and she helped me to get rid of it while getting in a good strength workout. She’s truly a miracle worker, and as a bonus she’s very relatable and super fun to work with. – Kelly
Brooklyn Strength has opened my eyes to a million and one ways that my body is here to serve me instead of hurt me, and that I need to take care of it. I originally discovered this studio for some strength training classes, which were also mental training classes in my eyes; they used creative ways to increase strength and mental power. My all time favorite is the Fascia Release workshops. Never in my life have I experienced pain that hurt so good and made me feel like I had a BRAND NEW body. Cadence is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, accepting, and humorous and creates a space (even virtually) where I feel included into a community that I am not consistent in. I have always felt that I get more than my money’s worth, whatever class I take! – Brittany
Cadence is exceptionally knowledgeable and talented when it comes to the healing the body. I took her fascia release classes when I lived in Brooklyn and have been missing them dearly ever since I moved away. Truly the highlight of the switch to a virtual world this crappy year, has been getting to do fascia release with her again. I learn so much every time and always walk away feeling like a new woman. – Olivia
Cadence helped me find simple solutions to what felt like insurmountable problems. I’m in my midthirties and gave up the diet cycle of my twenties only to fall into the ‘whatever’ cycle of my thirties. Pounds and stress later I reached out hoping someone could give me rational guidance without guilt. During our sessions we unpicked what was tripping me up in my quest to cook more at home and avoid the delivery binge. We created snack ideas that work for my fridge-less office and helped me see that the long periods of time btw my breakfast and lunch were not a sign of my willpower but actually setting me up for exhaustion and stress eating. It took me a few tweaks but I have SO much more energy than ever before! I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge twice last week just because I felt like it! That’s 5 miles from my office to my home! I’ve lost weight and I’m not dieting! Finally! It feels like the years of anxiety and shame around food are in my past. I can just be a person who eats because that’s what I person does! I can’t recommend her enough! - Eve
Cadence changed my life through Fascia Release - after years of TMJ and back pain I learned real methods for pain relief through her classes and private sessions. Cadence is also so generous with her extensive knowledge of anatomy and movement; she will teach out how to take care of your own body rather than just relying on others for help. – Catherine
Taking classes at Brooklyn Strength has changed how I view my body. Chronic pain has been part of my life for years, and I never saw myself as someone who had the potential for strength. Working with Cadence has helped me understand how to trust my body, and I now know that I will always find a way to work with whatever issues arise. It's been a remarkable journey, and I'm so grateful. – Lorelei
I first visited Brooklyn Strength at the original Columbia Place location in 2015. I sought Cadence's help with anxiety that was consistently at a panic level. She taught me that hunger is not a sign of failure, but a normal, healthy signal that we should pay attention to. She taught me that nutrition isn't nearly as complicated as trends would lead us to think, and that our bodies thank us when we feed them adequately. When I moved to Vermont a few years ago, one of the things I missed about the city was my regular Wednesday night Strength & Contrology class with Cadence. Now, thanks to the mixed blessing of COVID, I can join her classes online! Rather than making you toned (which I now know thanks to her podcast was made up by the fitness and diet industry because women aren't supposed to be strong), Cadence focuses on what I would describe as physical intelligence. Strength, for sure, but also proprioception, balance, body awareness, and mobility. Her classes are unlike any that I've taken, and I recommend them to anyone who wants to connect with and learn about their body! – Sarah
Brooklyn Strength's Strength and Contrology class has been such a bright light, in recent times. A challenging and fun class of kettlebells, strength and the occasional ground rolling. Cadence's teaching style is welcoming and non-intimidating - lots of support and feedback throughout class. She goes through every move and makes sure that we understand them. If you're new to kettlebells, don't worry - they offer a beginners series too. Kettlebells are fun - you'll have a swingin' good time! – Rizie
I asked Cadence to make me strong enough to take gymnastics classes without breaking my 40+ year-old body. She approached my 1:1 training sessions with so much enthusiasm - creating exercises that strengthened my wrists & shoulders, expanded my range of motion, and grew the self-confidence I needed to tumble again! Thanks to Cadence, this grown up is flipping and feeling like a kid again! – Amy
Cadence’s Strength and Contrology class hits a sweet spot for me. I’m in my mid-40’s and have a kid. My main goals are to get strong, stay strong and stay mobile. I love the feeling of lifting with kettlebells (which I had never done before) and working with my own body weight. I appreciate the mobility work so much - it helps us move and do what we need to do in everyday life. This is something that might be overlooked when we are younger and getting our kicks on trapezes or something but it’s so, so important for feeling good in our bodies as they get older.
Cadence has a no-bs down-to-earthness and humor that works for me. It’s not fussy, it’s not like some “system” or “method” that we have to buy into. It’s just getting our bodies to work. – Justine
It’s not an exaggeration to say that working out with Cadence has been life-changing. She’s given me a completely new understanding of my body and what I am capable of. Before exercising with her, I had an on & off relationship with fitness. By working out with Cadence, things have finally fallen into place for me and I now have a deep commitment to taking care of my body. I have also gotten taller and much stronger, and I hold my body and move through the world differently. I’ve been working out with Cadence for a few years now – a time that included a pregnancy she helped me stay strong during and a postpartum period she helped me recover through. Cadence has an amazing knowledge of anatomy and health, a wonderful sense of humor, the weirdest, best and most accurate analogies - and she looks like a gorgeous Renaissance babe who could also kick anyone’s ass. If you want the smartest, toughest and most supportive workout around, go to Brooklyn Strength! – Erica
You are my true savior. I really can’t tell you how much I love these classes— I’ve NEVER been big on exercise but something about Cadence is MAGICAL! I actually now love exercising. It really has been transformational to me, and I feel noticeably stronger and way more aware of how I carry my body. It’s NUTS. So thank you!!!! I really can’t tell you how big this is and how happily shocked I am to realize “wait, there is something out there that works for me!” – Veronica
I took weekly private sessions with Cadence all through my pregnancy, straight up to 38 and a half weeks. She made me feel strong and empowered and in touch with my muscles and joints and pelvis as they changed and accommodated this sea change; with her intuitive guidance I was gracefully and thoughtfully able to shift the way I carried my body and my baby through those forty weeks and into delivery. She made me feel like a mother warrior, with the agile pelvic floor of a champion, which is weird but also true. – Krissa
Cadence's classes have honestly been life-changing for me. I have always been active and in shape but was plagued for years with aches and minor injuries. I have benefitted from her expertise in both strength training (in deceptively intense but oh so fun S&C classes) as well as the insanely relaxing and supportive fascia release workshops. I can credit Brooklyn Strength with a much more loving and understanding relationship with my body and fitness and for introducing me to a community of passionate awesome people who I can't wait to (hopefully) train with in-person again one day!
